JC Decaux showcasing China
Zhenbiancheng Village. About 2hours from Beijing, north west. I have to say, in 5 years in China, I had never heard of this place...and I think it's not very popular amongs foreigners, which makes this village even more attractive.
Good for a few days if you are looking for a break from Beijing. Perfect for hiking/relaxing/do nothing. There is an old/ruined section of the great wall - about 10mn walking distance from where we stayed. I read that unlike other parts of the great wall, this particular wall section is made of stones instead of bricks.
The courtyard, facing the mountains.
The owners cooked Chinese food for us the whole time we stayed there.
They cooked the same dishes everyday. But it was very good so I won't complain.
Type of bedrooms the courtyard has. Kang bed stove (or heatable brick bed) is a traditional long bed, around 2 meters, made of bricks. The kang produces heat - perfect for winters in Northern China. They had the same bed platform in the kitchen area and during the day, the landladies removed the matress and pillows so that they could use it for day time activities (cooking, playing cards, etc)
The village - tny & lovely. After two days there, I was happy though to be back to crazy overpopulated beijing.
